Baby now measures about 4.3 to 4.6 inches from crown to rump and weighs about 2.8 ounces. Fingernails are well-formed and the fine hair, called lanugo, continues to grow on the head. Arms and legs are moving, the nervous system is functioning and muscles are responding to stimulation from your baby’s brain. You may be able to hear the baby’s heartbeat in the doctor’s office. Your uterus has grown significantly by now and weighs about 8.75 ounces.

I’m working a 12-hr shift at work on a weekend, but I just as I left Jess and Bean I was thinking how RAD it’s going to be being a dad! 🙂 This maintenance is temporary, Jess and Bean are the good stuff!
Hey Little Bean,
Today is a very important day filled with hope and pride. Today is the day the 44th president of the United States (your country although you don’t know that yet) will be sworn in. President Barack Obama represents hope for positive change in a country that quite literally feels like it is crumbling around us. Your father and I feel hopeful that greed will no longer run the most influential corporations and our government. We have hope that we can afford your college education and most of all hope that a better country will be there for you and your children-should you choose to have them.
There has never been more excitement around a new president. Not only does President Obama bring hope for change and the empowerment of the people to help create that change; President Obama is making history as the first black American president. We just celebrated Martin Luther King Day yesterday which honors a man that stood up for change and hope of equality for all races. Within the last 50 years our country was moving towards civil rights and now we have a black leader.
I am proud to live in a country and world where you can do anything you desire. We are so proud and excited to bring you into this world. And today more than ever we are hopeful that you will have the opportunity to follow your dreams.
We love you Bean!

According to our weekly pregnancy email……Bean has fingerprints! 🙂
Congratulations, Jessica! You’re 14 Weeks Pregnant. Your baby measures about 3.2 to 4.1 inches from crown to rump and weighs almost an ounce. The ears are shifting from the neck to the sides of the head, and the neck is getting longer and chin more prominent. Facial features and unique fingerprints are all there. Your baby is beginning to respond to outside stimuli. If your abdomen is poked, the fetus will try to wriggle away. You’re probably wearing maternity clothes – or at least looser fitting ones — now. Your skin and muscles are starting to stretch to accommodate your growing baby and you may be constipated since pregnancy hormones relax the bowel.
So we had our 2nd successful Dr appointment with bean. Everything looks good and we were told everything is normal. We also got to hear Bean’s heartbeat. They said we would know the sex sometime in February. The pictures are actually starting to look like a baby. Jess is finally feeling a little better so hopefully things continue to improve!
I’m still craving candy canes, never liked them before but the mint is so soothing! On week 12 and baby is all developed. Now we must grow, grow, grow until mom feels like Violet Beauregarde on Willie Wonka!
Jess’s sister got the one gift that Jess always wanted for her baby, Frog blanket and another book, Baby’s First Tattoo. Very cute. Auntie Mel is hoping for a girl 🙂
Welcome to our little family blog. Right now, it’s just Jess, me, blue and bean!
Attached is the first picture of Bean!
