What were we thinking? Bad haircuts, relationships, 1000+ days together in High School
Family GeneralIt was crazy to see everyone in real life in person. Truth is we don’t do a lot of talking. We are Generation Xers, we are Pre-Facebook and all we have are the stories between us, but we don’t have us instagraming while shotgunning a beer while going through some of the most difficult times in life. I don’t know that I took a single photo all night. In fact it was the first time in a very long time I wasn’t glued to my “screen” – cell phone, iPad, laptop, TV. It was great to just connect IN PERSON as it use to be done with the soft touch. To all the folks that organized the event – Shelly, Stephanie, Katie – thank you, cuz god knows I didn’t / couldn’t have arranged a reunion.
Things I Remembered Most at the Party
- Several stories that can’t be retold: Brad, Mitch, Bryan and Randy – I’m looking at each of you. Thank god there are no pictures or hard evidence.
- I was impressed I didn’t see a bunch of people staring at their phones
- Too the spouses in attendance – I don’t know how you dealt with this. 20 years of anxiety in one night. Thank you to all of you.
- Remembered that I had my first cigarette with Shawn Hale
- Dave Sanderson is still a stud and is a rocket scientist for Jeff Bezos
- Seeing folks I’ve known my whole life since elementary school [Angela, Niki, Stephanie, Dawn, Brad, Mitch, Bryan, Randy] #ifimisseduimsorry
- Cutting up the dance rug with Blythe [Closing down the dance floor]
- Getting to know some folks I never even knew or hung out with in high school [too many folks]
- Talking parenting with Ryan McNeice – his kids blue hair at one time and my kids turquoise toenails #itsdifferentatmyhouse
Few Pictures on My Camera [Thanks Jess]
To everyone I got to hang with (and those I didn’t) – thanks for making us feel so welcome and catching up. Feel free to email me at jason at jasongrimes dot com or Facebook.

Dear X-Games: Raise Your Game! Mtn Biking Slopestyle was Weak versus RedBull and Crankworx
GeneralDear X-Games:
First off, thanks for including freeride mountain biking to the X-Games with the new Slopestyle event. The audience the X-Games reaches is valuable to the lifeblood of this growing sport.
However, RAISE YOUR GAME! The whole term of freeriding implies that you can assess the terrain, pick your line and go big. These are unwritten rules that RedBull Rampage and Whistler’s Crankworx have known and been doing successfully for years. Yet, when I saw the X-Games coverage, there was 1 line, boring as hell and lacked imagination. Give the guys options. Give them an opportunity to innovate. Otherwise you are taking all of the imagination out of the event.
Still not convinced? Watch the X-Games First Place finisher compared to Crankworx from 6 years ago – many of the same athletes competed in both events. Then re-evaluate where this form of riding originated – British Columbia, check it out and improve. [Forgive my misspelling of Andreu Lacondeguy – that dude is insane and have his own TV show]
Compare:
X-Games 2013: Take X-Games Gold Medalist, Brett Rheeder
Crankworx 2007 [6 Years ago]: Take Second Place finisher Andreu Lacondeguy
Now that you’ve reviewed both – join with me and ask ESPN and X-Games to #X-GamesRaiseYourGame
If you’d like to see more downhill videos I have some over at my YouTube Channel: jasongrimesdotcom.

5 Classic High Roller Mistakes in Rocky II
General
- Overspending – Rocky overspent like a motherf@cker! He had his dance with Apollo Creed and took his prize money and bought a car, house, clothes and even a really cool Satin Jacket with a Tiger on it. Simply put, overspending does not scale! I know, I have repeatedly made this mistake far too many times.
- Sold Out to Make Commercials – Rocky was a local icon and a product of his neighborhood “the streets.” He was in no position to be in front of a camera pimping products – the dude could barely read and had a very bad eye. Rocky is a fighter by trade, not an actor.
- Bought a Car He Couldn’t Drive – Remember, Rocky had to “protect that bad eye” and driving a car half blind was never a good idea. That being said, I bought a boat I could barely captain, so I can identify
- Buys a Really Nice House – This one could be argued either way, but he bought a philly brick townhome with his part of his fighting purse, but it was far more than they needed given how they were living before. Remember, Om lives in less than 600 sq feet.
- Gets that Really Cool Satin Jacket – Wait a minute, this one is a great purchase and a fine investment, make that 4 Classic High Roller Mistakes.
I love me some underdog stories, but this stuff isn’t far from today’s headlines of mortgage foreclosures, companies going under, etc. In short, stick to what you need and grind it out.
My BBQ Died. It was 8 years old. No it wasn’t a Weber.
GeneralIt didn’t matter to me to me that you were a Kenmore, you served my family for 8 years and I’m sad to see you go. Any takers on who are do it yourself repair folks? Holler.
