5 Classic High Roller Mistakes in Rocky II

If you know me and have read anything I’ve blogged about, you know that I love Rocky movies! I think there are nuggets of goodness in almost each of them, well maybe not much of the last 2.

So although, Rocky II was clearly not the best in the series we learned some powerful life lessons from Sly Stallone in the second installment of Rocky.
  1. Overspending – Rocky overspent like a motherf@cker! He had his dance with Apollo Creed and took his prize money and bought a car, house, clothes and even a really cool Satin Jacket with a Tiger on it. Simply put, overspending does not scale! I know, I have repeatedly made this mistake far too many times.

  2. Sold Out to Make Commercials – Rocky was a local icon and a product of his neighborhood “the streets.” He was in no position to be in front of a camera pimping products – the dude could barely read and had a very bad eye. Rocky is a fighter by trade, not an actor.

  3. Bought a Car He Couldn’t Drive – Remember, Rocky had to “protect that bad eye” and driving a car half blind was never a good idea. That being said, I bought a boat I could barely captain, so I can identify šŸ˜›

  4. Buys a Really Nice House – This one could be argued either way, but he bought a philly brick townhome with his part of his fighting purse, but it was far more than they needed given how they were living before. Remember, Om lives in less than 600 sq feet.

  5. Gets that Really Cool Satin Jacket – Wait a minute, this one is a great purchase and a fine investment, make that 4 Classic High Roller Mistakes.

I love me some underdog stories, but this stuff isn’t far from today’s headlines of mortgage foreclosures, companies going under, etc. In short, stick to what you need and grind it out.
